Question: Why aren't those lifted cars with ridiculous wheels illegal?

Higher center of gravity, decreased brake effectiveness, and your crumple zone goes above the area of impact in the event of a collision. Plus with the increase in wheel size the gas mileage drops (extra gas=extra emissions) and the speedometer gets thrown off. If you upgrade the brakes, and re- gear the tranny I guess it would take care of SOME of the problems, but the safety issue is still there. Maybe a permit system that makes sure the driver has made the necessary mods and can only drive in 30mph zones? I'm all for people modding their cars and everybody liking something different, but when it puts people at risk I draw the line. |
